Stanislav Vincenz - image

DEMFORUM completed work on the script for the feature biopic "Vincenz". The film unfolds a story of the author of the unique Hutsul epic "On the High Highlands" Stanislaw Vincenz (1888-1971). The work is compared with "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors" by Mykhailo Kotsyubynskyi and works by Hnat Khotkevych about opryshki.

The fate of Stanislaw Vincenz is extremely cinematic: the grandson of an oil tycoon, a Pole of French descent, a student of Sigmund Freud, he lived on the edge of the world in a Hutsul house and read Homer every day. Vincenz wrote his own Verkhovyna Iliad and Odyssey, and then himself, like Odysseus, was forced to run from the Carpathians across the Chornohora ridge to Hungary, escaping Soviet rule, accompanied by Molfar. In the last years of his life in Lausanne, Switzerland, Vincenz saved Nobel laureate Czeslaw Milosz from suicide and hosted distinguished twentieth-century European intellectuals in his Hutsul house in La Combe.

For several years now, DEMFORUM has been especially praising and promoting the legacy of Stanisław Vincenz. Now we have a unique chance to film the story of the Hutsul ambassador in co-production with Poland and the assistance of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.

Ukrainian playwright, screenwriter of the movie "Cyborgs" (winner of the "Golden Whirlwind" (Zolota Dzyga) in 2017) Natalia Vorozhbyt and screenwriter Maksym Kurochkin worked on the project. In the future, "Vincenz" will be shot, and we expect it to become a powerful promotion of the Ukrainian Carpathians as a destination for investment and tourism.

The project is implemented with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation.
